History
Amateur Poker League (APL) is a poker league owned and run by World Poker Tour (WPT). Therefore, it is also popularly known as WPTAPL.
Tournament Format
Amateur Poker League (APL) hosts live No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker Tournaments at different locations of the world like US, Canada, Australia and UK. Players have the luxury to join at any time during the season without any fees or Buy-ins.
Highlights
Every APL event offers first and second place entry to US$500 Freeroll Poker Tournament. Players can play for over US$2000 every month and at the same time enjoy “Poker Night” food and drink specials at the participating APL venues. Wagering and Gambling is strictly prohibited at the APL venues.
Main Event
APL has a 3 tier tournament structure namely Monthly Venue Championship, Semi-Annual Regional Championship and National Championship. The game played is No-Limit Texas Holdem. Players are given chips worth 10,000 and top 16 players receive points according to the APL guidelines.

Berten Dragten of Colorado was the APL Player of the Year for the year 2011.
