History
The Epic Poker League started in 2011 as a series of Elite Poker Tournaments organized at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The executive chairman of EPL is Jeffrey Pollack who is also the former commissioner of WSOP. Professional poker player Annie Duke is the commissioner while Matt Savage is the Director of EPL. Season one of Epic Poker League, held on August 2011, will also be aired on American T.V Channels CBS & Velocity Network.
Tournament Format
The season one of the Epic Poker League comprises of four Tournament Series. Tournament Series One was a 4-day event held from 9th August to 12th August, 2011. It featured $20,000 6-Max No Limit Holdem Poker. David Rheem emerged as the winner in series one. Tournament Series Two was also a 4-day event held from 6th September to 9th September, 2011. It featured $20,000 8-Max No Limit Holdem Poker where Mike McDonald emerged as the winner. Tournament Series Three saw $20,000 Mix Max No Limit Holdem being played between 14th to 17th December. Chris Klodnicki was the winner of Series Three. The Tournament Series Four will feature $20,000 Heads-Up No Limit Holdem & will take place from 9th to 12th Feb, 2012.
The four tournament series will culminate in a League Championship in February 2012, which will feature the top 27 players from the first four tournaments, battling it out for the first EPL Champion Title.
Highlights
The Epic Poker League is a unique and exclusionary tournament in a way that it only allows those poker players to participate in the league who have met certain qualification criteria like multi-million dollar lifetime earning, multiple number of titles or cash wins at international level Poker Tournaments, and those who maintain a specifically defined Code of Conduct issued by the EPL authorities.
Main Event
The main event of the Epic Poker League i.e. the League Championship is a $1,000,000 Freeroll Poker Tournament. The top 27 winners from all the four series will clash against each other in a two-day event to be held on 13th & 14th February 2012.
