History
The concept of India Poker Series was propelled by Bharat Agarwal, a poker enthusiast from Kolkata, who dreamt to make India conversant with this exciting game. The first version of IPS was held in April 2009 that attracted a small crowd consisting of 37 participants which is also considered as a crucial milestone. The tournament grew more systematic and was held every 2-3 months in Kolkata drawing more participants.
India Poker Series (IPS) is one of the extensively known names in India that organises exciting and challenging Poker tournaments at various popular Casinos. Its creation was meant to promote Poker in India along with giving poker players a unique platform and playing environment where they can continue to play to their hearts content and win attractive rewards.
The year 2009 was a crucial moment for India Poker Series as it was organised on a National level for the very first time towards the end of December. After many months of struggle and proper planning, IPS was held in Casino Royale Goa in the month of April 2010. The popularity of this tournament spread like wildfire and within a week its present name India Poker Series was declared. Since then IPS has been holding exciting and attractive poker tournaments every alternate month.
The prime objective of India Poker series is to endorse Poker in India and also spread its significance by holding tourneys and tutorials at various Casinos. It also makes attempt to produce and identify talents who could lead or represent India in international tournaments.
Tournament Format
This year, the tournament started with 5K Re Buy on 12th Jan, 2012; followed by 12 K Re-Entry with Flight to Main Event, 20K Main Event with Re-Entry) & 10K Re-Entry Tournament on 12, 13, 14, 15 Jan respectively. While 3.5K Re-Buy Mega Satellite, 6.5 K Re-Entry Super Satellite, 10K Double Chance Tournament, 20K Main Event, 5K Re-Entry Tournament is scheduled on 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th & 25th March respectively.

IPS leaves no stone unturned to ensure fair play and the tournaments are full of enthusiasm. Its TDA is comprised of knowledgeable and experienced poker room personnel from various corners of the world who draft the set of rules for all its poker tournaments.

In India Poker Series, only English language is adopted to communicate with participants, which is also considered as its official language.
IPS takes stern actions and decisions against participants found adopting unfair means to win the game. So, you should know the rules of this game and tournaments without any doubts.
Main Events
The number of entries in the Main Event was over 30 and including the re-entries it touched 37. The Final Table started after 5 and half hours of play and lasted close to over 3 hours and thus the total duration was almost 9 hours. Here, the first 4 places were paid out.
Player of the Year
The player with the maximum number of points on the Leader board at the end of the calendar year is declared the Player of the Year (POY).
Ashutosh "Ash Burner" Naik from Goa with 1946 points emerged as POY of 2011.
The India Poker series holds all its Poker tourneys only at legal and licensed Casinos on a regular basis every alternate month along with a few couple of additional exciting events each year that makes it one of the highly visited poker series in India.
