Aditya Sushant, commonly known as Sushi, is a professional Indian poker player from Chennai. He is the first Indian to win the World Series of Poker bracelet in Event 10: $1,000 Tag Team.
Background
Aditya found Poker through a Google search. In 2008, he was randomly looking for good strategy games and found Poker. He came across Texas Holdem and started reading Wikipedia. The article intrigued him, so he started reading more about the game. With basic poker knowledge, he went to YouTube and found high-stakes poker and WSOP videos.
Aditya Sushant Poker Career
Aditya started playing on Full Tilt Poker. He then found several platforms, offering a $50 free bankroll and transitioning to real-money gaming.
In his first real-money game, he lost $50, which he had taken from his father’s credit card. After his family confronted him, he withdrew the remaining balance and took a break. However, he then found Poker Stars Freer's bankroll and started playing. He made over $1,000 before losing it again due to poor bankroll management and stopped playing.
In college, he discovered poker again through local games and started playing. This time, he started taking the game seriously. He used to skip classes and even travelled to Goa for IPS and IPC tournaments. He played the 5k, 10k and some cash and lost everything in two days. He returned, started playing, and built up a roll of 1 L.
One month later, he took his final short in IPC and left home with 30k. He played in the 5k, reached his first final table in the 10k, and was the first to go out. The same day, his friends invited him to their place, and he met Aditya Agarwal. They started talking about poker, the platforms, and strategies, and during the conversation, he convinced Aditya to buy some of his actions, and he agreed. This gave him confidence, and he even said in an interview that he felt he would win, and he did, taking 6Lacs home.
After this win, Aditya Agarwal discussed the possibility of stacking him for MTTs and with this, he became the first PokerGuru pro under Adi. Initially, he struggled but slowly improved his game and made his bankroll. After a year, in 2011, they decided to stop being stacked as they had enough money to sustain themselves.
In 2015, he finished 12th in a $5,000 buy-in event and won $38,358. The following year, he finished 216th in the $10,000 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event and won $42,285.
In 2017, he entered WSOP with Nipun Java. They entered the $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Tag Team event and won. Both of them got $75,318 and a coveted gold WSOP bracelet.
In 2022, Sushant finished second in the two India-based games and made over $102,820.
