Bertrand Grospellierm, known as ElkY, is a French poker player. He also played in StarCraft: Brood War and Warcraft III esports. He has earned a Triple Crown title by winning the World Poker Tour, the World Series of Poker bracelet and a European Poker Tour. He has ranked 77 on the Global Poker Index.
Background
Bertrand Grospellier was born on 8 February 1981 in Melun. Before playing poker, he was a world-famous StarCarft player. In 2001, he moved to South Korea to pursue StarCraft. He says his success and experience in StarCraft is why he is successful in poker.
Poker Career
Grospellier turned to poker in recent years and became a member of Poker Stars. He was the first player to reach Supernova and Supernova Elite, the statuses given to players who have earned 100,000 and 1,000,000 player points. He achieved this target in 2 weeks and 4+1⁄2 months.
European Poker Tour
In 2007, Grospellier participated in the European Poker Tour and finished second in the Copenhagen event, winning 309,000 Euros. He won the European Poker Tour's (EPT) PokerStars Caribbean Poker Adventure the following year and took $2,000,000 home. A year later, despite being knocked out of the main event of the PokerStars Caribbean Poker Adventure, he took $433,500 home.
World Poker Tour
In 2008, he won the World Poker Tour's Festa al Lago tournament, earning $1.4 million. This made him the third player to win a title on both the WPT and EPT. He was also awarded the distinction of "WPT Player of the Year in the seventh season of the WPT.
World Championship of Online Poker
Grospellier was disqualified from event 29 of the WCOOP after he agreed to go all-in blind with another player. In 2009, he won his first WCOOP bracelet. Three days later, he won another bracelet. In total, he won $500,000.
World Series of Poker
ElkY played in the 2011 Seven Card Stud Championship and won his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet, earning $331,639. He won his second bracelet in the 2019 WSOPE. The wins made him the fourth player to have WPT, EPT and WSOP titles.
StarCraft and WarCraft III
Bertrand Grospellier was the top-ranked StarCraft player. He finished second in the 2001 World Cyber Games and earned fourth in the South Korea Ongamenet Starleague. In 2022, he moved to WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos. He finished second in the Ongamenet WarCraft Retail League before retiring.
