Biography
Cary Steven Katz is an American professional poker player and businessman. He is currently the chairman of the non-profit organisation Stop Child Predators.
Background
Katz graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He founded the college loan corporation, the seventh-largest student loan company in the U.S., serving as its CEO for 15 years. In 2014, he started a media website named conservative media website CRTV and four years later, he filed a lawsuit against the company over non-payment of a $20 million loan.
In 2015, he founded Poker Central, which launched PokerGo, a subscription-based streaming service. He also created the Super High Roller Bowl, Poker Masters, and the U.S. Poker Open.
He is married to Jackie Katz and lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, along with their six children.
Cary Katz Poker Career
Katz’s grandmother taught him poker, and he started playing live tournaments competitively in 2004. One year later, he finished 21st in the $5,000 World Poker Tour Legends of Poker Main Event and won $20,850. In 2009, he finished 159th in the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, winning $40,288.
In 2013, he entered the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $100,000 high roller and finished fourth, taking $543,800 home. The following year, he finished eighth in the $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop and won $1,306,667.
He played in the Las Vegas high roller events at the Aria Casino. In 2018, he entered the PCA Super High Roller and won his first major tournament, taking $1,492,340 home.
In 2019, he won the Super High Roller Bowl London and a prize of £2,100,000; the following year, he finished third in the Super High Roller Bowl Australia and won AU$640,000. In 2021, he won the 2021 PokerGO Cup Main Event, taking $1,058,000 home.
In 2023, he was crowned the 2023 PokerGO Cup champion after cashing five times and winning $655,800 in prize money.
