Daniel Shak is an American professional poker player and hedge fund manager. He is known for his high-buy-in poker events. He has made over $14 million in live earnings with a 94th spot in the all-time money list.
Background
Daniel Shak was born on May 7, 1959, to Paula J. Felmeister (nee Cohen). He married model and poker player Beth Shak, but they divorced in 2009. In 2012, he sued her for a shoe collection containing 1,200 shoes worth $1 million, but he later dropped the lawsuit. He then married Anna Shak, a former model, in 2014.
Dan Shak Poker Career
Before entering poker, Shak was a New York Mercantile and Commodities Exchange (COMEX) trader. He even established SHK Asset Management, a hedge fund primarily for gold futures.
He started taking poker seriously in 2004, and the following year, he played in the first World Series of Poker and cashed $45,000. In 2010, he came closer to winning his first WSOP bracelet; he finished second in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-low Split-8 or Better event.
2007, he cashed $70,000 in Ontario's North American Poker Championships. In 2010, he cashed $1,107,553 in the $100,000 buy-in event, considered the most successful event.
2013, he won the $125,000 Party Poker Premier League Poker VI and took $528,000 home. He has always considered poker a hobby and turned down several business opportunities; however, in 2013, he joined Ivey Poker at his friend’s request.
