Personal Life
Gary Berland was born on May 9, 1950 in Gardena, California and died in February, 1988. In his career, he has won five World Series of Poker bracelets.
At the age of 18, Gary moved to Las Vegas with his family and attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He was a good student and worked hard in his studies.
Gradually, he developed interest in the card games and so he decided to drop out from college only to become a full time professional poker player. During his college days, he was not financial strong and had to work as a poker dealer in several poker competitions to build his bankroll. But eventually, he decided to start his own poker career only to win titles and tournaments. He was good in math which proved advantageous and he understood poker easily.
Tournaments
With his exceptional poker skills Gary Berland won five World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets apart from cashing several times. But it is not only his skills but also his admirable character that makes him distinct from other professional poker players.

Gary Berland started his promising career by participating in the 1976 WSOP but became known in 1977 WSOP where he secured second place competing with Doyle Brunson.
Despite his defeat, Gary never gave up and continued to play with zest and achieved victory later on. He won two WSOP events in 1978: the $500 Seven Card Stud and the $1,000 Seven Card Ruzz.
In the year 1979, he won two Seven Card Stud tournaments that added to his fame and ranked him among world class poker professionals. He participated unceasingly in several World Series of Poker events for a whole decade. But unfortunately because of a blood disorder he died early in 1988.
Of all the live tournaments played by Gary Berland, he had earned more than $300,000. The cash victories at World Series of Poker tournaments exceed $200,000.
