Gary Berland was born in Gardena, California, on May 9, 1950, and died on February 6, 1988. In his career, he has won five World Series of Poker bracelets.
At the age of 18, Gary moved to Las Vegas with his family and attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He was a good student and worked hard in his studies.
Gradually, he developed an interest in card games, so he dropped out of college only to become a full-time professional poker player. During college, he was not financially strong and had to work as a poker dealer in several competitions to build his bankroll.
