Biography
Howard Lederer is a retired poker player best known for his involvement in Full Tilt Poker and playing cash games at the highest stakes. From 2000 to 2001, he won two WSOP events and 42 other WSOP cashes. He also has two World Poker Tour titles.
He is a founder and board member of Tiltware, the parent company of Full Tilt Poker. The company shut down in April 2011, popularly known as ‘Black Friday’. After that, he also took retirement from his poker career.
Background
Lederer was born on 30 October 1964 in Concord, New Hampshire. His family introduced him to card games at a young age, and his father taught him chess. He started playing competitively as a teenager. His father and sister, Katy Lederer, are authors. His other sister, Annie Duke, is also a professional poker player.
He moved to New York to study at Columbia University. There, he found some of the biggest chess clubs in town, such as the Marshall Chess Club and Manhattan Chess Club. He learned poker at these clubs.
Poker Career
After learning poker, he played poker in secret rooms around the city and eventually in Las Vegas. In 1986, he tried to qualify for the WSOP but was unsuccessful. Next year, he made it to the final table and finished fifth in the $10,000 no-limit Hold 'em Main Event.
Live Poker
Between 1993 and 1999, he reached eight final tables before winning his first WSOP bracelet in 2000. He won his second bracelet in 2001, a $5,000 no-limit Deuce to Seven tournament.
In 2008, he won 1 million Australian dollars at the Aussie Millions High-Roller event. 2010, he finished second and won $250,000 in the WSOP's Tournament of Champions.
Poker player and commentator Jesse May called Lederer ‘The Professor’. Recently, his nickname was associated with his power strategies and instructional style.

Apart from playing poker, he has been involved in several poker-related activities. In 2011, he appeared fourteen times on NBC’s Poker After Dark. He also commented on the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament, Learn from the Pros and other Fox Sports Network poker programs.
He has released instructional videos, written books, and hosted poker fantasy camps. He was a member of the Poker Players Alliance's board of directors.

Howard Lederer's Full Tilt Scandal
Howard Lederer was a founder and board member of Full Tilt Poker. After the 2011 crackdown on online poker by the U.S. government, they found that the company was in huge financial trouble. Many players complained that they could not withdraw their money, and everyone blamed Lederer and other board members for taking huge salaries when players' money was trapped.
The U.S. Department of Justice investigated and filed a lawsuit against Lederer. The people in the poker industry got frustrated as Lederer refused to apologise or accept the fault. He did apologise five years later, but his reputation was damaged.
