Kathy Liebert is a famous American professional poker player.
Personal Life
Kathy was born on 1st October, 1967 in Nashville, Tennessee but was raised in New York. Kathy graduated with a degree in business and finance from Marist College, Poughkeepsie, New York. After graduation, she worked as a Business Analyst for Dun & Bradstreet, a fortune 500 company. Becoming dissatisfied with the job, Kathy took the advice of her mother and quit her job to do something she loved.
Undecided about her future, Kathy headed to the West Coast, making a short stop in Las Vegas where she played casino poker for the first time. She had learned the game when her parents invited friends for occasional in-house friendly competitions.
Eventually, Kathy ended up in Colorado and went up to play $5-Limit poker. She learned the fundamentals of the game playing weekly and further improved her game reading books by top pros.
Tournaments
A friend encouraged Kathy to try her hand at tournament poker so she again headed for Las Vegas. Kathy finished second in her first tournament, Omaha Hi-lo. A week later she entered her first Texas Holdem tournament and stood second. After one week of tournament poker she had won $34,000.
It was just the beginning of her tournament career, so, she travelled to other major tournaments that year and had many victories. Consistently building her bankroll with good tournament performances, Kathy was able to buy houses in Las Vegas and California.
At the 2004 World Series of Poker, Kathy won a gold bracelet in a $1,500 Limit Texas holdem Shootout event. She was one of three women to win an open event in that year's WSOP.
Kathy also appeared on and won the series 2005 Poker Royale: Battle of the Sexes. On June 1, Kathy made the final table of the $10,000 Pot-Limit Holdem World Championship at the 2008 WSOP and finished in 3rd place, earning a total of $306,064.
As of 2009, she has one World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet, has made five WPT final tables and her total live tournament winnings exceed $5,600,000. She has won more prize money in open field tournaments than any other woman in poker history and is ranked 38th overall.
Kathy Liebert also serves as poker coach to actor James Woods. Kathy is now a role model for most women poker players wanting to make it big in the grand poker circuit.
