Kathy was born on October 1, 1967, in Nashville, Tennessee, but was raised in New York. She graduated with a degree in business and finance from Marist College, Poughkeepsie, New York. After graduation, she worked as a Business Analyst for Dun & Bradstreet, a Fortune 500 company. Becoming dissatisfied with her job, Kathy took the advice of her mother and quit to do something she loved.
Undecided about her future, Kathy headed to the West Coast, making a short stop in Las Vegas, where she played casino poker for the first time. She had learned the game when her parents invited friends for occasional in-house friendly competitions.
Eventually, Kathy ended up in Colorado and played $5-Limit poker. She learned the fundamentals of the game by playing weekly and further improved her game by reading books by top pros.
Poker Career
At the beginning of her poker career, Kathy was a prop player in Colorado, where she played at casinos. She attained a significant milestone in 2002 by winning the inaugural Party Poker Million tournament, earning one million dollars.
She has reached the final tables of the World Poker Tour events six times. One of her outstanding achievements was securing third in the Borgata Poker Open in 2005, earning recognition for being the highest-finishing woman in World Poker Tour (WPT) history at that time, until J. J. Liu secured runner-up in Bay 101 Shooting Stars tournament in 2007.
Kathy Libert won the WSOP bracelet in 2004 in a $1,500 Limit Texas Hold'em Shootout event, becoming one of three females to win an open event in the 2004 WSOP.

A friend encouraged Kathy to try her hand at tournament poker, so she again headed for Las Vegas. Kathy finished second in her first tournament, Omaha Hi-Lo. A week later, she entered her first Texas Holdem tournament and stood second. After one week of tournament poker, she had won $34,000.
It was just the beginning of her tournament career, so she travelled to other major tournaments that year and won many times. Consistently building her bankroll with good tournament performances, Kathy could buy houses in Las Vegas and California.
At the 2004 World Series of Poker, Kathy won a gold bracelet in a $1,500 Limit Texas holdem Shootout event. She was one of three women to win an open event in that year's WSOP.
