Kelly Julia Minkin was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on March 29, 1987. She grew up in Milwaukee and moved to Phoenix with her parents in 2010. She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson and graduated in molecular and cell biology.
In 2014, she enrolled in Arizona Summit Law School, graduated with a law degree, and worked at Kent & Wittekind, PC in Phoenix.

When Minkin was in college, she casually visited casinos, but she slowly started regularly visiting them and worked her way up to the top. In 2013, she played her first live tournament, finishing second and winning over US$150,000.
2015, she won the LA Poker Classic tournament and took $55,000 home. One week later, she reached the final table of the WPT main event and finished third, winning $260,000.
In 2015, she played in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and made money in the three tournaments in the no-limit holdem variant. The same year, she played in the WSOP main event and got 29th place in the best woman. She won around $210,000. She ranked 250th in the Global Poker Index Player of the Year 2015 and was awarded the GPI Female Player of the Year award by the end of 2016.
In 2017, she finished third in the WSOP circuit main event; next year, she reached the final table of the WSOP and finished ninth in the tag team event, finishing 50th and winning $150,000.
