Pratyush Buddiga is an American poker player and a spelling bee champion. He plays under the screen name Shane Gamble.
Background
Buddiga was born in New Zealand and shifted to the US when he was five. Two years later, he moved to Colorado. When he was 13, he won the 75th Scripps National Spelling Bee, taking $12,000 and a scholarship. His brother competed in the 77th Scripps National Spelling Bee and finished second. Pratyush attended Duke University and graduated in 2011.
Pratyush Buddiga Poker Career
Pratyush Buddiga started playing live tournaments in 2010. The following year, he finished 613th in the 2011 World Series of Poker (WSOP) and won $21,295.
In 2012, he finished eighth in the European Poker Tour and won $94,127. The following year, he finished eighth in the GuangDong Asia Millions, winning $772,870.
In 2014, he won the Fallsview Poker Classic and took home $222,172. Later that year, he finished third in the Super High Roller Event and won $844,571. He said, ‘No matter how good I get at tournaments, I’ll never be better at poker than the best cash game players, guys like Doug Polk, for example.’
He won the 2016 EPT Barcelona, taking $780,011 home. He finished sixth in the Super High Roller Bowl the following year, winning $1,000,000.
