Biography
Sailor Roberts was an American professional poker player known for winning the 1975 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. He has won two WSOP bracelets during his career and, in 2012, was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.
Background
Bryan W. "Sailor" Roberts was born on March 7, 1931. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War, where he got his name ‘Sailor’. Upon his return to Texas, he started playing underground poker games. Along with poker, he was also a renowned contract bridge player. He died on June 23, 1995, from cirrhosis caused by hepatitis.

In 1970, Robert participated in the World Series of Poker with Amarillo Slim, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Moss, Puggy Pearson, Crandell Addington, and Carl Cannon. In 1974, he played in the $5,000 Deuce to Seven Draw event and won his first WSOP bracelet. The following year, he won the 1975 World Series of Poker Main Event and took his second bracelet and a cash prize of $210,000 home.
