Rules & Strategy
As mentioned earlier, the rules of traditional Rummy is no where comparable to the rocket science. So it can be learned and understood quite easily. The first and foremost thing that one has to understand while playing Traditional Rummy is that, all you need to do is to get rid of your cards. Initially, every player gets 10 cards and all are kept upside down in a row in front of them. Then you have a deck of cards kept in front of you which is called ‘stockpile’. Now, you have to select the top card of the stockpile and will have to throw one card from your hand, so that the total number of cards held in your hand would always remain constant. One who gets rid of all the cards in hand wins.
How to get rid of your cards
There are two basic ways in which you can get rid of your cards. Either you get ‘sets’ or ‘Runs’. Sets are basically a set of similar cards. For instance, a set of three aces! You must have at least three cards to make a set. On the other hand, run is a set of 3 or more adjacent cards of the same suit. For instance, 3,4,5 of spades can be kept as runs if they all are with you. A point to be remembered is that you should have a minimum of 3 cards in your runs. If you get rid of all your cards in one go, you will be throwing extra 25 penalty points on your opponents.
